XIAMEN, China — The China Xiamen International Stone Fair, the world’s largest hard-surfaces event, will be postponed until this summer in response to the Wuhan coronavirus outbreak.

The new dates for the event are June 6-9.

Organizers for the event, which draws more than 140,000 attendees annually, announced the delay in a statement issued early today in Xiamen.

“Due to the novel coronavirus outbreak in China, we attach great importance to the health and safety of our guests attending Xiamen Stone Fair 2020,” the statement noted. “Based on the current situation for the prevention and control of the novel coronavirus spread, the decision was made by the organizing committee that the Xiamen Stone Fair 2020, originally scheduled on March 16-19 in Xiamen, will be postponed to June 6-9, 2020.”

The delay came after a hectic Monday internationally concerning the outbreak, as governments and health officials around the world began issuing advisories about visiting China. The U.S. State Department and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) discouraged going to China for the near future.

“We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the rescheduling of the fair,” the statement noted,”Please accept our sincere wishes for the New Year. May you enjoy good health in the coming year.”
