Two Major Stone Distributors Acquired
MIAMI — Mosaic Companies acquired stone distributors Walker Zanger and Opustone in a deal announced today. Terms of the deals weren’t disclosed.
Mosaic is a partnership between Albert Claramonte, the founder of Surfaces Southeast, and The Baupost Group, a Boston-based investment manager withexperience partnering with family and founder-owned businesses.
Mosaic also includes Surfaces Southeast, a leading manufacturer and distributor of specialty wall and mosaic coverings to the home center and specialty retail market.

Walker Zanger is one of the best-recognized stone brands, with more than 65 years of experience, among architects, designers, homebuilders, and contractors across the U.S. with broad reach across the residential and commercial markets. Walker Zanger offers its broad range of products through curated showrooms and slab galleries, along with 200 authorized dealers nationwide.

Founded in 2001, Opustone is a distributor of decorative and ornamental stone in the South Florida region with three luxury showrooms in Miami, West Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale.

In addition to retaining his role at Opustone, Schigiel will also serve as a strategic advisor to Walker Zanger’s slab division. Lupica will continue to serve as acting general manager of Walker Zanger, supported by the existing Walker Zanger team.
The acquisition of Walker Zanger was complete in January. The acquisition of Opustone closed this month..
