Special Carrara Stone Show Scratched

CARRARA, Italy – A special edition of the Carrara Marmotec stone trade expo won’t be taking place next month.

Officials at CarraraFiere, the event’s producer, announced the June 18-21 show’s cancellation yesterday.

“I wish to thank both the companies that appreciated the new formula that we thought to apply on the occasion of this ‘special edition’ and those who met us and discussed various issues with us,” said Fabio Felici, CarraraFiere president, “starting a new path that will take us to the 33th edition of Carrara Marmotec, planned in 2016.”

“We took this decision with regret, given the huge work we have done, however, we do not want to create discomfort among the companies in our area forcing them to difficult choices today, also in consideration of the territorial issues that they are facing at present.”

CarraraFiere announced the special 2015 trade expo last September, as part of a news Business to Business formula to augment the traditional biennial Carrara Marmotec held in even-numbered years. The new event also would’ve capitalized on the international attraction from Expo 2015, the world’s fair that opened in Milan earlier this month.

While the trade expo won’t be taking place, other events planned in co-operation with the Italian National Council of Architects will go ahead next month, including technical seminars with credits, conferences and the national assembly of the order.

The “Carrara Marble Weeks” program will also continue, starting on June 18. The event in the town of Carrara will present its historic synergy with marble in all its forms: design exhibitions, impressive installations and sculptures that will be placed in squares, narrow streets, buildings and shops. Planning continues for the next regular edition of Carrara Marmotec, set for next May.

“I am sure,” Felici added, “that the work we have done in recent months has been very positive in view of the 2016 edition, allowing us to work at our best as to create an event that represents a real business opportunity for companies in the sector.”
