Put it in Play to Defeat Cancer
MIAMI – Ernie Aviñó is bringing the ball way downcourt – like 13 miles – and it’s for a good cause.
Aviñó, executive vice president at Marmol Export USA, will be dribbling a basketball for the length of the Bounce Back from Cancer™ route during the week of May 10 to raise funds for the Miami Cancer Institute.
The virtual marathon dribble (or walk – traveling is allowed) is a partnership with the Miami HEAT pro basketball team and the Baptist Health South Florida healthcare organization in Coral Gables, Fla.
Aviñó will do the 13.3 miles solo during May 10-15. To restrict large gatherings, participants will track themselves via smartphone or fitness tracker and upload the data.
The event is the second dribble/walk for fundraising in the Miami area, with the inaugural event in 2019. Aviñó’s also participated in the first event … and he’s doing this for more than his health.
Aviñó’s son EJ was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic lymphoma in May 2014 and received care and care and treatment at Baptist Health. (Aviñó reports that EJ is now “doing great and thriving now as a teenager (attitude and all).”
Anyone can sponsor Aviñó – or join him and his family on their dribble trek – by visiting his event webpage at https://fundraisers.hakuapp.com/ernesto-avino-1. Donations of any size are welcome.
