Podcast Gives Voice to Stone Update
Radio Stone Update, the latest media offering from Stone Update, hit the podcast ranks this week with its first episode.
Available direct at https://www.buzzsprout.com/1097870/ , the newscasts touch on several topics in the hard-surfaces industry, with a twice-monthly schedule.
Behind the microphone for Radio Stone Update is K. Schipper, a contributing editor to Stone Update who’s covered the industry since the early 2000s. Schipper also holds plenty of experience in radio production; after receiving an M.A. in Mass Communications at Western Colorado University, she served as an National Public Radio affiliate news director.
Stone Update Editor/Publisher Emerson Schwartzkopf said that he’d been considering some kind of podcast production for years but couldn’t hit on the right format. Ironically, it took an industry slowdown to get things moving.
“All of a sudden, trade shows and other travel went out the window and, like a lot of people, we at Stone Update found ourselves with a lot of time on our hands during the lockdown,” Schwartzkopf said. “We also figured that this is the perfect time to develop ideas that need extra time to get going.
“And, if we had plenty of anything in March and April, it was extra time.”
The radio-newscast format fit with Schipper’s background, and development moved fast. The prototype worked so well that it went live this week, with the next episode coming on May 27.
Radio Stone Update will range between five to ten minutes per broadcast. It will alternate with the Slab & Sheet e-newsletter for a regular weekly news offering for the industry.
