Picco Joins Natural Stone Institute Exec Committee

OBERLIN, Ohio – Michael Picco, president of PICCO Engineering in Concord, Ontario, is now assistant secretary of the Natural Stone Institute’s executive committee.

Michael Picco“I am honored to have been selected to the Natural Stone Institute executive committee,” Picco said. “Having worked in the industry for over 30 years, I hope to use my experience and work closely with my peers to help facilitate the continued use of natural stone and growth of the market.”

“Coming from the technical side of the natural-stone industry, Michael will broaden the diversity and perspective of the executive committee, which has historically been mostly comprised of quarriers and contractors,” said David Carnevale, institute president. “He is the perfect candidate to keep the institute focused on being the leader in technical research and education for natural stone.”

Picco joined the board of the then-Marble Institute of America in 2015. He’s also served as chair of the institute’s Toronto Chapter; as a member of the Canadian Standard Association technical committee on Masonry Design S304.1; and as chief consultant to the Terrazzo Tile and Marble Association of Canada (TTMAC), serving on its Dimension Stone Guide committee.

The Natural Stone Institute executive committee is currently comprised of Picco, Carnevale, Vice President Greg Osterhout, Treasurer Robert Zavagno (Cleveland Marble Mosaic Co.) and Secretary Kathy Spanier.

Nominations are currently being accepted for two seats on the institute’s board of directors: the South Central Zone 5 (Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma and Texas) and Pacific Zone 7 (Alaska, California, Hawaii, Oregon and Washington).
