NYC-Area Presentation on New Silica Rule
OAKLAND, N.J. – The New York Metro chapter of the Natural Stone Institute will hold an informational workshop March 15 on the new silica-dust rules from the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
Silica Exposure and Employee Safety in the Stone Industry will take place from 6-8 p.m. at the headquarters of Alpha Professional Tools® in Oakland, N.J.
Mark Meriaux, the institute’s accreditation and technical manager, will offer guidance in creating a safety program that addresses silica exposure, baseline testing, and a number of issues that fabricators will encounter.
Among the learning objectives are:
- Discussing silicosis, its origin, and its impact on your employees;
- Understanding the changes to the employee silica-exposure rules for wet and dry shops;
- Reviewing baseline testing options and how these will protect your employees and company; and
- Identifing tools available to help employers ensure a safe work facility.
Individual registration is $25 for chapter members and $50 for non-chapter members, along with complimentary admission for architects and designers.
