GRAY GRANITE
Champlain Stone Ltd., Warrensburg, N.Y., adds Wood Creek Granite® to its line of company-quarried natural stone. The gray-blue to dark-gray granite offer patterns of white swirls and striations with occasional quartz and mica inclusions, and is quarried in Clemmons, N.Y., which (for LEED® purposes) is within 500 miles of major U.S. cities such as New York, Boston, Philadelphia and Baltimore. Wood Creek is available in rubble or sawn forms; its properties allows for fabrication into architectural components such as paving, sills and tiles.

NEW QUARTZ COLORS
Samsung, La Mirada, Calif., introducts two new colors next month (October 2011) for its Radianz™ line of quartz sufraces. Diamond Black and Diamond White – a pure version of the shades – allow for a minimalistic yet elegant design in countertops and other creative surface uses, like shower walls; combining the two provides a distinguishing contrast for both residential and commercial interior surfaces projects. The diamond additions bring the total number of options in Radianz to 28 colors.

DUST COLLECTORS/GUARDS
Makita U.S.A. Inc., La Mirada, Calif., introduces a pair of its Dust Collecting Cutting Guards for use with Makita 4-1/2” and 5” grinders. The standard guard (#192618-2) is made with cast aluminum and weighs .45 lbs, with a large lip for stable plunging; it also features a direct-connection dust port for use with most commercial vacuum hoses. The guard with shoe (#192972-4) includes tool-less depth adjustment and a large shoe for stability and accuracy. Both can be fitted to most commercial vacuum hoses for connection to a commercial-grade vacuum system.

5” GRINDER
Metabo Corp., West Chester, Pa., introduces the 5″ WEPA14-125 quick-angle grinder with a 12.2 A motor, 1,450 watts of power, 29.2 inch-lbs of torque and a no-load speed of 10,000 rpm. The unit includes the company’s auto-balance technology that replaces a traditional backing flange with an auto-balancing flange pressed onto the spindle; ball bearings automatically offset out-of-balance conditions, reducing vibration significantly. The tool also includes the company’s  VibraTech (MVT) side handle and “S-Automatic” safety slip clutch.
