New Coverings Awards Laud 12 Stone, Tile Projects

ORLANDO, Fla. – A dozen U.S stone-and-tile design projects took the honors – and $10,000 in prize money –  with the first Coverings Installation & Design (CID) Awards last month.

The new competition, as part of Coverings 2012 in Orlando, acknowledges superior installation of tile or stone, and the installation’s impact on the level of aesthetics and interpretation of a distinctive design vision.

The two Grand Prizes honored the El Anduluz condominium complex in Santa Barbara, Calif. for commercial work, and a private home in Walled Lake, Mich., for residential projects.

The centerpiece of the site is an open courtyard where the tile is fashioned into an exquisite mélange of decoration; the installation includes pillars and archways, stair risers and treads, benches and a fountain.

Each honoree of the CID grand prizes won $1,000.

Six other projects were cited as standouts from 50+ entries from across the country, and the installers and designers credited with them went home from Coverings with $500 cash prizes.
