Neolith Wins 2016 Architectural Record Product of the Year Award

CASTELLÓN, Spain – La Bohème, one of the newest additions to sintered compact surfacing brand Neolith has been recognized with a Product of the Year award from Architectural Record for its La Bohème sintered surface.

250 neolithThe surface from TheSize, inspired by the trunks of Lebanese cedar trees, won as a breakthrough product in the category of Finishes and Surfacing.

Each year, a jury of industry professionals are challenged with selecting the best architectural products – among hundreds of entries – using criteria that support a commitment to innovation, usefulness and aesthetics.

La Bohème utilizes Neolith Digital Design (NDD) technology and sinterization to create a high-performance surfacing material that offers a true representation of wood in a virtually indestructible and sustainable material. NDD is a proprietary technology that increases the design possibilities for authentic look and texture, while sinterization is the process of compressing and forming the material by heat and pressure without melting the contents to the point of liquefaction.

The surface is made from clays, feldspars, silica, and other natural oxides and recycled raw materials. Unlike natural wood, La Bohème has near-zero porosity, so the product is hygienic, stain-resistant, easy to clean, and impervious to chemicals and acidic foods. Slabs are also resistant to everyday wear, scratches, heat and UV rays, making the material ideal for virtually any indoor or outdoor surfacing application, including countertops, flooring, walls, facades and much more.

“When creating our collections, we take pride in advancing the industry through innovation, while maintaining authenticity,” said Mar Esteve, marketing manager, TheSize Surfaces. “La Bohème is really a first surfacing of its kind, and we are excited and honored that it is recognized by Architectural Record and their team of esteemed judges.”

The surface previously won honors from the Muuuz International Awards this year.
