Muehlbauer Recognized for ASTM Work
OBERLIN, Ohio – Chuck Muehlbauer, technical director of the Natural Stone Institute, recently received recognition for his service in chairing an ASTM committee on natural-stone standards.
Committee C18 on Dimension Stone for the past six years. Incoming committee chair Kurt Hoigard, president of the Raths, Raths & Johnson engineering firm in Willowbrook, Ill., presented Muehlbauer with the honor during the Spring C18 meeting on April 15-17 at institute headquarters in Oberlin.
Muehlbauer received an ASTM Award of Recognition for chairingApproximately 25 members of the C18 committee were on hand during the three-day conference, which also included a tour of the sandstone quarry and fabrication shops of Cleveland Quarries in Vermilion, Ohio.
Committee C18, formed in 1926, includes a current membership of approximately 100 and holds jurisdiction over 25 standards published in the Annual Book of ASTM Standards. The committee meets twice annually and also includes five technical subcommittees.
ASTM standards have, and continue to play, a preeminent role in all aspects important to the effective standardization of dimension stone, including, testing, specifications and construction practices.
The next meeting of the C18 committee will be Oct. 21-23 at the Washington Hilton in Washington.
