Marmomacc Sponsors Hospitality/Retail Design Contest
VERONA, Italy — Architects worldwide can meet the challenge of designing hospitality and retail facilities in a new competition offered here by the Marmomacc stone trade event.
The new Marmomacc Architecture and Design Competition 2012 seeks the best applications of natural stone in designs for spas, restaurants and shops, with the winners getting a chance to present their work at the Sept. 26-29 trade show in Verona.
The competition, presented in collaboration with Belgian-based architect web portal Archi-Europe, involves no fees, although submitting architects need to register with Archi-Europe to process their entries before the deadline of Sept. 2.
Designs can be submitted in three categories: spas; shops; and winebars/restaurants. All should use stone material as the main component of the project; all entries need to be submitted on special competition PDF forms in 2D and/or 3D, shown in a maximum of three A3 format sheets in one PDF file.
A panel will select a winner, plus second and third places, in each category. Judges include Vincenzo Pavan, the architecture consultant for Marmomacc; Verona architect Roberto Nicolis; Marie-Claire Regniers, chief editor of Archi-News; and Jacques Allard, executive director of Archi-Europe.
The competition is seen as an opportunity for young architects, since the winners in each category will present their projects during a specific Marmomacc seminar, while the first-, second- and third-place entries will have the chance to display them during a specific exhibition.
The deadline for submitting entries is Sept. 2. For more information, including the PDF forms for entries, go here.
