Informa Acquires Dwell on Design
IRVING, Texas – Dwell on Design, billed as America’s largest design event, is now part of Informa plc’s portfolio of U.S. design and materials shows.
London-based Informa bought the exhibition from Dwell Media Inc. in what sources unofficially noted as a “multi-million-dollar deal.” The Dwell events in Los Angeles and New York will be run by Irving-based Informa Exhibitions U.S., Construction and Real Estate, which also owns and operates The International Surface Event (TISE), World of Concrete and Greenbuild.
The agreement formalizes a partnership between Dwell and Informa, to expand the scope and international presence and influence of Dwell on Design, an event with more than 400 exhibitors and 300,000 ft² of expo area at its flagship Los Angeles edition.
Informa Exhibitions U.S., Construction and Real Estate President Rick McConnell and Dwell Media President/CEO Michela O’Connor Abrams made the announcement today on the opening day of the 10th annual Dwell on Design LA.
Integral to the Dwell on Design experience is the on-stage content, which will continue to be curated by Dwell Media – with Dwell Executive Vice President of Content Amanda Dameron leading the editorial team. Since its inception in 2006, the content themes have expanded from the show floor to offsite events at Dwell Design Week, and will remain dedicated to driving attendee engagement and exhibitor activations at Dwell on Design.
“It has long been the plan for the evolution of Dwell on Design to include international iterations of what is truly America’s largest design event,” said Dwell’s Abrams. “Paramount to achieving that level of growth was finding the right partner. I am confident that we have done just that with Informa Exhibitions U.S., Construction and Real Estate, and that Rick McConnell and his team will make Dwell on Design the largest must-see design event worldwide.”
With the acquisition of Dwell on Design, Informa adds to its roster of over 150 events worldwide and continues to expand its shows in the Design vertical. For both brands, the long-term partnership agreement is entered into with the goal of establishing Dwell on Design’s global presence as the premier design event series and voice of modern design around the world.

Dwell on Design NY 2015 will be held Oct. 2-4, at Clarkson Square in Soho in New York. Dwell on Design LA 2016 will take place next June 24-26 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
