IceStone Gets Green Honor
BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Cementious-surface maker IceStone became a Best For The World honoree earlier this month by the global B Lab movement for its environmental performance and sustainable business practices.
IceStone earned this honor because of initiatives such as using 100% recycled glass in their product, having a water-recycling system, steam-powered kilns, electric/hybrid forklifts, and a day-lit factory to take advantage of natural light.
IceStone, a Certified B Corp, ranked in the top 10% of all B Corps for their environmental responsibility.
“It’s an honor for IceStone to be recognized for being environmentally responsible,” says Lisa Bowen, IceStone’s president. “Every day, we’re working on figuring out ways to be even more responsible. We operate under a triple bottom line which is: People, Planet, and Profit. IceStone was created to make a difference and spread awareness and influence not only in our industry but to the world.
“We also like to thank B Lab for continuing the initiative of spreading awareness of sustainable and inclusive businesses and business practices.”
Best For The World recognition is administered by B Lab, the global nonprofit that certifies and supports Certified B Corporations, which are for-profit companies dedicated to using business as a force for good. Today there are 3,000 Certified B Corporations across 64 countries and 150 industries, unified by one common goal: to redefine success in business.
Using the B Impact Assessment, B Lab evaluates how a company’s operations and business model impact its workers, community, environment, and customers. To achieve the B Corp Certification, a company must achieve a score of at least 80 points on the assessment.
IceStone manufactures sustainable countertops and surfaces made from recycled glass, cement, and non-toxic pigments. IceStone is a founding B Corp member, NSF and Cradle to Cradle certified. Founded in 2004, the company, has saved over 16 million pounds of glass from being dumped in landfills.
