Dekton® Makes U.S. Launch
NEW YORK – Cosentino Group’s new Dekton large-format surface made its official U.S. debut here last week, appearing in an exhibition as part of Archtober, a month-long festival celebrating architecture and design.
The company also announced that the new glass/ceramic/quartz hybrid slab material will be used for a sculpture to be created by famed architect Daniel Libeskind at Cosentino’s headquarters in Spain.
The first series of Dekton will be offered in 12 neutral and natural-stone hues in several finishes. Manufactured in slabs of 56” X 126”, the material will be offered in thicknesses from 1.2cm-3cm, and will be offered through what the company noted as “leading national retailers” in December.
“Dekton represents a giant leap in the evolution of surfacing materials with advanced technical properties and endless design possibilities,” said Valentin Tijeras Garcia, Cosentino director of product innovation. “It offers architects and designers a new way of looking at surfaces, fusing the inside with the outside and even wrapping an entire building, for a completely uniform architectural statement.”
Architects and designers came to the fore during the material’s introduction on Oct. 3 at the Center for Architecture in New York. The accompanying exhibition, Surface Innovation: Redefining Boundaries of Interior and Exterior Spaces, showcases original concepts featuring Dekton in diverse design concepts by six emerging New York architecture firms, including Architecture in Formation, Desai/Chia Architecture, EASTON+COMBS, MANIFOLD ArchitectureStudio, Moorhead & Moorhead, and SOFTlab.
“Cosentino is passionate about innovation and Dekton represents an important evolution in the surfacing category, said Eduardo Cosentino, CEO of Cosentino North America. “It was a natural alliance to work with firms who are pushing the envelope to help shape the future of the industry. This exhibition brings together the creative energies of some of the most talented young architects in New York.”
The introduction press conference at the exhibition also included Libeskind, who announced he is working with Dekton in creating Beyond The Wall, a permanent sculpture at the Cosentino global headquarters in Cantoria, Spain. The project will be unveiled on-site by Libeskind in late November.
Dekton, utilizing the company’s proprietary process of Particle Sintering Technology (PST), is the result of more than a decade of research and development, and is the heart of a $172 million new plant and expansion at its headquarters in Spain.
“The introduction of Dekton by Cosentino today is the culmination of years of R&D and our unwavering commitment to innovation in order to remain at the forefront our industry,” said Lorenzo Marquez, vice president of marketing, Cosentino North America. “We are thrilled to present it to the US market during Archtober and in partnership with such an incredible group of talented architects.”
