Cambria Plans Ahead with Land Deal
LE SUEUR, Minn. – Cambria may expand its operations here on land purchased recently from a local economic-development group.
The St. Peter (Minn.) Herald reported that the quartz-surface manufacturer purchased a 147.78-acre tract last month west of its plant for $1.46 million from the LeSueur Economic Development Authority (EDA).
The purchase marked the end of a six-year negotiation between Cambria, the economic group and the Minnesota Department of Transportation about the property, which is west of State Highway 169.
The company, if it wanted to expand current factory lines, would need a 28.5-acre area south of the plant and relocate a state-owned rest area currently on the site. The Herald noted that previous plans included moving the rest area to the EDA land, although there’s not anything currently in the works concerning this.
In an interview with Le Sueur County News.com, Cambria CEO Marty Davis indicated the company may expand the factory south and locate its distribution facility to the site purchased from the EDA.
“We think the expansion at the factory would be best served if we were to move and transition to the MnDOT site and continue south with the main factory lines,” Davis told the online publication. “But we have to see what the state wants to do.”
“We have to see how it evolves,” he said. “We could potentially expand both areas.”
Securing the land gives Cambria the option to expand “this business and other businesses we do,” Davis noted. He also told the online publication the Le Sueur site will remain as Cambria’s only factory location.
