Cosentino Devoting $150 Million to Silestone® by 2021
CANTORIA, Spain — Cosentino Group is putting more than €130 million ($146 million) into its Silestone® quartz-surfaces brand by 2021.
The surfaces company announced in mid-December that a three-year investment plan will expand and improve its production facility here, address workplace safety and the environment, and increase R&D efforts.
“Despite the spectacular arrival of Dekton® on the market in recent years, Silestone® continues to be our flagship model,” said Francisco Martínez-Cosentino, Cosentino Group president. “In all these years, it’s been a platform for innovation and continuous evolution, driving the whole sector forwards.”
The plan, starting this year, will put €133.6 million ($150 million) into various Silestone® improvements. In 2016-2018, the company invested €56.5 million ($63.4 million) into the product.
Cosentino Group plans to spend €82.4 million ($94.5 million) to install up three new quartz-surface production lines at its Cantoria facility, along with improving the current lines.
Cosentino Group also earmarked €36 million ($40.4 million) for environmental and workplace-safety issues. The company placed an emphasis sustainability with Silestone®, noting its Environmental Product Declaration (EPD®) licence this year for the whole range of the brand’s colors and products.
The rest of the investment is to be put into innovation and R&D, although another significant portion is slated for production improvements.
“Our commitment to the brand for the next few years is even stronger and, focusing as always on innovation, production improvements and the most efficient safety measures,” said Martinez-Cosentino. “We are putting a large part of our investment into revolutionising a whole product category once again, as well as leading the industry with responsibility and future vision”.
The Silestone® investment fits largely within Cosentino’s Industrial Implementation and Expansion Plan for its industrial park in Cantoria, which also includes its Dekton® factory and production facilities for natural stone.
This year, the company received the “Declaration of Strategic Interest” from the Regional Government of Andalucía. This is a project in which Cosentino expects to invest more than €700 million in next 10 years, along with the creation of around 740 direct jobs. An additional 1,900 direct and indirect jobs will be created during the roll-out.
