Indiana Limestone Offers Architects Stone Training
OOLITIC, Ind. — Indiana Limestone Co. is continuing its educational efforts in offering detailed professional programs on the use of limestone in building design and construction, for audiences of architects and professionals in related disciplines.
These “Lunch and Learn” programs yield continuing education credits toward accreditation requirements for members of the American Institute of Architects (AIA).
The content of the programs addresses many aspects of Indiana limestone, highlighting the firm’s commitment to supporting the architectural community. Subjects addressed in the continuing education sessions include:
- the inherent strength, beauty and durability of the limestone;
- details of quarrying the stone;
- comparisons with cast stone alternatives; and
- limestone’s inherent value in architectural design and construction.
In addition to conducting continuing-education sessions, ILCO offers architects advanced project assistance in the critical early stages of project design.
ILCO’s in-house experts help professionals find the best ways to design in concert with fabricators, engineers, masons, quarries and even freight companies. This support helps restrain costs without any sacrifice of building aesthetics or construction quality.
“Architectural drawings can arrive at a fabricator as detailed as the fabricator needs to price without unknowns and submit accurate shop drawings that can be quickly approved by the architect,” said Daryl Robinson, ILCO architectural sales support specialist. “The time and money saved by having stone well detailed and ‘fabrication friendly’ in the contract documents are invaluable.”
In 2014, ILCO presented their educational program to architects across the country. In 2015, they will double their efforts, expanding into Canada and deepening their efforts on the East Coast.
