2012 Carrara Awards Go for Greatest Hits

MARINA di CARRARA, Italy – This year’s Marble Architectural Awards (MAA) will feature a elite entry list – as in past winners.

The international natural-stone-project competition, held in conjunction with the biennial CARRARAMARMOTEC trade event here, will feature a review of former winners. In past years, the awards highlighted a specific geographic region, such as Asia or North America.

“They will be a celebration of the winners from past years, and this will also constitute a sort of survey of the use of natural stone in architecture over the past 25 years,” according to a release from International Marmi e Macchine Carrara S.p.A., the sponsor of the awards and the trade event.

A photo exhibition featuring the documents, images and technical information produced by the architects at the time will be presented at this year’s event, set for May 23-26. Emerging themes will be discussed during meetings, debates and conferences, with the prominent names in contemporary architecture giving their expert views on the subject.

The full program (exhibition and presentation) will take place in Carrara’s old town, where events held throughout the evening during CARRARAMARMOTEC.

A catalog of this year’s MAA will also be published and presented during the 2012 trade fair.
